A major part of the roof construction was putting the purlins on the roof. Purlins support the load from the roof deck, in this case corrugated metal and are supported by the beams. The crew salvaged these purlins from the floor of a building. Number one 'R' - reuse, in action.

Darci and Scott worked for many hours rocking the purlins.

Image
The roofing crew needed to be very careful on their feet up this high and make sure they only stepped on the purlins rather than the space in between them.

Scott and Darci got into a rhythmic groove.

They had a goal of completing both sides of the roof before Darci needed to depart the Ecovillage for a few days.

The worked steady for hours.

While the roofing crew worked on the purlins, the cob crew continued building up the walls. Here a new window is installed.

The car windshield is getting all snug in the east wall.

The cob walls continue to grow.

The West wall is growing so tall.

Bottles in cob wall. When the sun hits the bottles you can see light all the way through the bottles. It looks very pretty.

Scott and Darci completed the purlins before she had to go. Keith joins the roofing crew and Scott and Keith start work at 6:00 am to try and get as much of the roof done as possible before the sun gets too hot. In this stage they are laying a high end tar paper down.

There's Cloe (one half of this weeks cobbing crew) standing in front of the cob building in process. The roof is looking awesome!

And now the metal roof.

Oh, ahh, an inside look at the purlins, tar paper and the metal roof being applied!

Metal roof installed. YES!

This beautiful buck hangs around the cob building site. Many Ecovillagers regularly chat with the buck for a few moments here and there.

Orchard update: this years harvest from the orchard's 2 very young sentinel dwarf apple trees. The apple trees were planted late last summer. It is very exciting that they are already producing fruit.

Image
Krista so happy to be hanging out with Ecovillage orchard apples.

Image
And joking around with them too! These are high vibration apples.

The Ecovillage is moving forward and it feels awesome.
