The lovely view from the Hawk House just before sunrise in the summer of 2009.
In mid summer the Hawk House deck is pure paradise for the Ecovillagers.
The Ecovillagers often get visitors, in this case they are treated to an authentic African meal.
It was lovely to have Hianga at the Ecovillage for the day sharing her culture.
The Fuchsia bring in the hummingbirds to the Hawk House deck.
This mega flowering basket gave many people joy this summer.
Scott in the summer groove.
Tiffany enjoying the ecovillage.
The rafters are in, the perlins are in and after much debate the Ecovillagers decided to put down some high end building paper and are ready for the final roofing material.
Morning light on nasturtiums.
A close up of one of the Ecovillager's friends.
The Ecovillagers planted just 2 zucchini plants which produced at least 15 zucchinis. With a little bit of input the land gives and gives.
A very unusual phenomena this summer was an extreme thunder and lightening storm that rolled in one evening. It began gently with a lovely rainbow and escalated from there.
The sky started to turn all kinds of different shades of orange.
It got very surreal for awhile when the entire sky looked like it was the atmosphere of a different planet.
It just got more intense from there with pounding rain and the thunder and lightening started.
The sky did many things that the Ecovillagers had never seen before.
And the thunder and lightening visited intimately. It certainly raised the adrenalin levels of all present.
Eventually the storm moved through, this was in the middle of the dry dry summer so there was concern about forest fires being lit by the lightening, but in the end it was all OK.
And then back to the lovely warm days of summer.
The crew grew a sunflower on the top deck of the Hawk House. It was fun to get intimately involved with it's process.
Veins of life.

Sunflowers love the heat.
The sunflower head in it's developing stage.
Life in action.
Later on in the summer the sunflower reached it's old age.
There was a heat wave this summer. Scott cooling down on the top deck.
During the heat wave shade was the word.
Back at the cob house construction the roofing paper waits for the final roofing material.
If you have been following this blog you know that the construction of this cob structure has taken years. In the winter time without a roof the cob takes a beating from the weather. The Ecovillager's goal was to get a roof over the cob this summer for sure! They chose a metal roof for this structure because the learning curve was less then other methods and the roof was really important to be constructed now.
The metal roof going on.
Every roofing screw in place.
Some Himalayan black berries have turned up on the Ecovillage land. This is an invasive species but the Ecovillagers love blackberries to eat. So they will let this patch grow but will cut it back wherever else it tries to grow.
Cloe enjoying a blackberry.
Blueberries blooming up.
The first blueberry grown and eaten at the Ecovillage.
Apples growing in the orchard, very cool.
The Ecovillagers enjoy lovely salads from the garden all summer.
Nasturtium flowers go into the salads too, lovely.
Cool Ecovillage habitats.
The Ecovillage wet land stays green even in extreme heat wave conditions.
Full moon.
Scott and Cloe enjoying the Ecovillage night.
And in the morning, pancakes!
Oh, sunflowers.
