Who We Are

Scott Robinson

Scott grew up as hippy kid flower child, attended 60’s free schools, and spent summers deeply immersed in nature.  His family were part of the back to the earth movement.  His social worker parents created societies, community programs, and healing organizations.  Through out his youth he was exposed to ideas like geodesic domes, conferences on habitat and sustainability, do-it-yourself values and alternative lifestyles. In recent years he has done extensive independent sustainability study and he currently serves as Lightwork’s Spiritual Director.  The Lightwork Ecovillage is the evolution of his early influences, combined with a clear spiritual base, new technologies, abundance and creativity.

Julia Watson

Julia took the Linnaea Organic Gardening Programme on Cortes Island in 2000 where she earned her permaculture certificate. It was during this course that she discovered the joy of living by the rhythm of the land.  She began to dream of living in a community that shared her passion for living in harmony with the earth and for healing body and mind.  The Lightwork Ecovillage is the dream manifested.  Her focus to date has been largely on the incorporation process, creating a sound legal structure that will last for generations to come.  Julia is passionate about treading lightly on the land and making conscious decisions every day that take care of the environment into account.

Krista Morrison

From an early age spending summers playing in a fort out in nature, Krista has been dreaming about living in a community that supports spiritual and environmental abundance and wholeness. She has initiated a school wide recycling program, become a vegetarian, encouraged school teachers to give more responsibility and accountability to youth, co-wrote a play addressing our impact on the environment for children and youth and toured it across the prairies. Krista considers herself blessed to be a part of a project that is committed to forward movement, integrity and action, making our dream practical and manifest and happily invites others to visit and be a part of this on-going creation.

Keith Grennan

Keith brings grounded enthusiasm and a passion for learning to the Ecovillage project.  Keith is a part of many activities at the Ecovillage, including the Ecovillage School, terrain mapping, accounting, legal matters, fixing Troopy, wireless internet and cooking.  He loves making cob, being out in the rain, and watching the land change with the seasons.

Cathy Belgrave

With a background in Education, Developmental Psychology, and Physical Education, Cathy brings a breadth of understanding about children.  She has worked with children in many capacities, teaching in the Alberta public school system is her most recent endeavor.  She also offers writing workshops for teachers and children, facilitating the discovery and recovery of the creative spirit.  Cathy believes that children are competent beings, curious and fascinated about the world around them and that education is a journey of 'becoming' for everyone involved.  Cathy is currently developing the Ecovillage School.

Julia Thiessen

At the ecovillage Julia can be found lifting logs, watching slugs, and sipping hot beverages, sometimes even all at once! The ecovillage project is a culmination of several areas of interest.  Julia has had a lot of practice living in community from living with 15 roommates at a time, to a homesteading project in Manitoba. Whether it be in a community garden or while reading up on dragonflies, nature is a source of endless inspiration for Julia.  Her favorite spot to meditate at the ecovillage so far is under the evergreen branches on the side of the trail. She's still searching for that elusive wild edible that tastes like potato chips.

Jeanine Longley

Jeanine was raised with a constant awareness of nature and our environment.  She is fascinated and enthused by the idea of living sustainably and is excited about learning how.  Jeanine loves kayaking, dancing, and building cob.  It is her dream to live at the lightwork ecovillage one day, teaching kayaking and living with a community of like minded people.  Jeanine took an outdoor focused program for her grade 10 year of high school, and gained many of her outdoor skills during that time. She believes that there is nowhere more beautiful then the we(s)t coast!
