The Lightwork Ecovillage Sustainable Building Workshops focus on internal and external sustainability by combining natural building with daily meditations. These workshops are sure to invigorate and inspire!
We are building a structure with a north straw bale wall and the remaining 3 walls of cob. This structure will be a stand alone building to start and then later become a room in a larger structure. In the 2006 summer workshop we laid the foundation, put in the straw bales and built about half of the cob walls. In the summer of 2007 we continued building up the west and east walls, anchored the straw bale wall into place.
What is Cob?
Cob is an ancient sustainable method of building with earth, clay, sand, rock and straw that is normally applied by hand. The traditional way of mixing the clay/sand/straw is with bare feet. Cobbing can be enjoyed by all ages. It's very connected to the Earth and fun.
