How about now? This delightful fellow has taken up residence in the lettuce pot! We see him there week after week.
Building with cob is awesome. It is also extremely labour intensive. We deliberated over the idea of using a cement mixer and decided at this point in the journey a bit of mechanical help is appropriate. This mixer is a dream. We can create a batch of cob in a matter of minutes.

Krista and Lynn divide a large straw bail efficiently.
Welded wire mesh is attached to the straw bales and secured with bamboo pins. This wire gives the wall lateral support and is very important in earthquake zones such as ours. Thick plaster is applied on top of and through the reinforcing welded mesh.
