The sky was filled with fog, the land moist from rain and we were filled with joy, happy to be back on our beloved Ecovillage land. Keith, Eric and Krista talk about waterproof gear and the love or our land as we walk towards the Hawk House.
The trees were covered with droplets of water left from the rain.
Arragon stands tall and proud far above the low lying fog.
The view of Howe Sound from the Hawk House deck, we could only see patches of Bowen Island through the clouds.
Warming up the Hawk House.
The crew's task was to harvest 6 alder trees, fallen from road construction and the winter weather conditions, to use as cross beams on the Hawk deck extension.
Since Troopy is in the process of receiving repairs we carried the alders back to the Hawk. We took several breaks and used varied carrying methods; on the shoulders, on the hips, tying bungees around each end of the log and with a person on each end carried them like a briefcase or a bag of groceries. One of the favourite carrying methods of the day was dubbed the ‘javalanche’, a method whereby the carrier grabs the tree like a javelin and runs as fast as they can trying to make as much grounds as possible and then drops the tree onto the ground! We all remarked on how satisfying it feels to do work that is so methodical, meaningful and fun!
By lunchtime the fog had cleared up and the view from the deck was one of winter and peace.
Eric works on securing the crossbeams onto the south end of the deck extension.
Strong deck.
The south end cross beams are in place.
Eric revels in a job well done.
As we walked back to the dock we noted that our small drainage trenches we dug the weekend before are successful at channeling any water flow off of the road and into our seasonal stream. The stream continues to flow beside Maple Valley Road from all the winter rain.
The water tank continues to collect rainwater, there is a lot more water in the tank this week.
At the dock we talked about our favourite parts of our day. Keith said his was working on Troopy.
Eric said his was working on the cross bracing for the deck extension.
Krista's was being in such a loving community; and javalanche.
Another awesome day at the Ecovillage comes to a completion.
