It was a stormy Sunday morning in March when our crew of five dedicated villagers (Krista, Scott, Keith, Eric and Julia), in their most rain-proof gear, embarked for a day at the Ecovillage.
Water pours off the rock face - we had never seen so much ground water flowing on Gambier. Seasonal streams had appeared all over.
Julia observing the flow.
Eric on the road (now a stream) up to the Ecovillage.
It was educational to be on the land with so much water flowing. We got to see exactly where it was running, and the places where our road might be washed out. The first thing the crew did was dig two small drainage ditches with berms across the road, to save different parts of Maple Valley Road from being washed out. Look at em go!
After the crew carried two eleven-foot posts that Scott had harvested the week before back to Hawk (our new name for the interim community house), Scott and Eric went foraging for the beam that will support the upper floor deck. All the wood we have harvested so far this season has been from trees that fell during the winter storms.

Cut cut cut...
Krista stripping logs back at Hawk. That's some beautiful wood!
Julia and Krista stripped logs for hours, uncovering the beautiful cream-colored wood that turns amber in the rain.
Ooooh! There it is! Our beautiful new post for the upper deck and porch roof. This new post will replace the existing post beside it. The new posts will be much stronger and aesthetically pleasing.
Another beautiful aesthetic element of the Ecovillage.
Bye for now! Another lovely day in the rain. The land awaits our return.
