Every time we go to the Ecovillage there is something new and exciting offered up by the environment. This morning it was an amazing fog bank cradling Hope Point close to the ocean's surface.

Image
The view from the interim-community house shows this flowing fog bank coming around Hope Point and into the channel between Gambier and Bowen.

Image
It was so beautiful.

Image
More and more of the huge old growth maples trees at the Ecovillage are turning gold as the days get shorter. A beautiful sight indeed.

Image
We collected two big buckets of these nutrient rich fallen maple leaves to mulch the garden.

Our main garden in fall.

Colleen is spreading the maple leaves around the entire garden to provide nutrients and protection over the winter.

The shasta daisy all tucked in for winter.

As Krista teaches Aiden how to cob he stops and looks at her and says, I'm having such a good time! - Well that's cobbin'.

Image
We are still working on the correct recipe to actually attach the cob to the straw bale wall, we are still in process with this vital technique.

Image
Scott and Colleen decided to turn this rather random front yard of the interim-community house into a rock garden. This is the before shot.

Image
Here is the rock garden after a days work. We will plant flowers and other beautiful things that deer don't like to eat so that it can be seen as you approach the interim-community house.

Image
A detail of the rock garden. In the circle in the fore ground is heather with inukshuk behind which opens up to a much larger garden that still needs to be filled with soil. We planted daisies and poppies in it for now.

If you have been following this blog, you've heard the story of Strider, the noble 500 year old Douglas Fir that stands at the centre of the Ecovillage. This is the story of Gandolf and the 5 lives of Shadowfax. Gandalf is the taller of the two and is an extremely old Douglas Fir. Shadowfax is the proud old maple accompanying him in this photo.

Image
Shadowfax starts as one massive trunk and then splits into 5 seemingly separate but connected trees.

Image
Sitting in Shadowfax you gaze upon Gandalf's weathered bark. It is obvious he was also present at the fire that scarred Strider many years ago.

Image
Sitting on Shadowfax and looking straight up you are treated to this awesome sight.

Image
Because Gandalf and Shadowfax create such an amazing power spot at the Ecovillage we decided to make a place to comfortably sit and appreciate this awesome energy.

Image
Scott takes that power spot for a test drive!

Image
Krista and Aiden have this spot their own way.
